This short video describes how to update your WordPress theme.

The easiest way is to use the Envato WordPress Plugin if you did purchase your theme through Themeforest. It has a tool that let’s you update your plugin without using FTP.

For this video, I am going to show you how easy it is to update your theme via your favourite FTP program. I use Cyberduck for Mac. If you are on a PC, I think Filezilla is super easy to use.

Get your FTP login info from your hosting company. You should find it in your CPanel somewhere. Once you login, you are going to look for the WP-Content folder, then the Theme folder, then find your theme.

Download your theme files from where you purchased your theme. Extract it, and find the theme folder with all the WordPress files in it.

Now take that whole folder and essentially overwrite the old one in your FTP program. On Cyberduck, it’s just a simple drag and drop and you should get a warning asking you if it’s ok to overwrite your files. Say yes!

Out of habit, I find that if I am updating the theme, I should update bundled plugins as well. This is much more preferable than using the interface to update the plugins. Your plugins should be in your theme’s zip file somewhere. Extract the zip file, and overwrite in the plugin in the plugins folder.
